Caedym is a kind of water ecological model that can run independently or combined with dyresm or ELCOM of hydrodynamic model. Caedym is composed of a series of mathematical equations which represent the main biogeochemical processes affecting water quality. Caedym model can be easily combined with some hydrodynamic models, such as one-dimensional dynamic reservoir model (dyresm) and estuarine, lake and bay model (ELCOM). The dyresm-caedym coupling model has successfully simulated the water quality changes of Rotorua Lake in northern New Zealand in three years; in addition, the three-dimensional hydrodynamic model and ecological model (elcom-caedym) under heavy rainfall conditions accurately simulated the unusual hydraulic conditions in the estuary area and the number and time of algae outbreak in the Swan estuary.
