In the flow direction grid, "depression" refers to one or a group of connected pixels whose flow direction cannot be given one of the eight valid values, also known as "sink". When all the adjacent pixels are higher than the processed pixels, or when two pixels flow into each other to form a cycle composed of two pixels, depressions will appear.
