本数据以区域林地为对象，从宏观上了解森林资源的现状和变化。利用80年代中期、90年代初期TM、MSS卫片，1999年TM、SPOT卫片等不同尺度遥感影像，以及研究所积累的各种电子地理数据文件，构建新疆生态本底数据库，丰富、直观的反映了新疆的1:100万林地基本自然资源情况，数据覆盖全疆区域，以兰勃特等面积圆锥投影方式得到。
