Based on long-term fixed-point observation and wind tunnel simulation experiments of soil wind erosion in typical desertification areas in northern China, the existing parameterization schemes for soil wind erosion and dust release were optimized. On this basis, a soil wind erosion and dust release model (WEDEM) version 1.0 suitable for northern China was constructed. Using this model, the spatiotemporal changes of soil wind erosion and dust release during desertification evolution in northern China over the past 50 years were simulated.
