Permafrost in Northeast China lies near the southeastern margin of the Asian high-latitude permafrost zone, where it is discontinuous and undergoing sustained degradation. Conventional medium- to low-resolution products remain limited in resolving fragmented permafrost controlled by local terrain, vegetation, wetlands, and surface conditions. This dataset was developed using 1614 ground samples of permafrost and seasonal frost from borehole records, published studies, and field surveys conducted during 2023–2025. These samples were integrated with 21 environmental factors, including geographic, topographic, vegetation, hydrological, soil, and climatic variables, and mapped at the pixel scale using a random forest (RF) model. Based on 200 repeated validation runs, the model achieved a mean overall accuracy of 0.91 and a mean Kappa coefficient of 0.82. The mapped preserved permafrost area is approximately 12.1 × 10⁴ km², accounting for 8.3% of Northeast China. Permafrost is mainly concentrated in the Da Xing’anling and Xiao Xing’anling Mountains. The northern Da Xing’anling Mountains form the regional permafrost core, while permafrost becomes increasingly fragmented southward and eastward, persisting mainly in locally favorable environments such as cold–wet valleys, forested wetlands, north-facing slopes, and high-elevation terrain. This dataset provides high-resolution baseline data for permafrost degradation monitoring, environmental assessment, engineering planning, and model validation in Northeast China.
