Considering the lack of high-quality regional survey maps for the same period, a "time-for-space" strategy was adopted, combined with a random forest model to estimate an empirical soil parameter; combined with the remote sensing freezing/melting index and the estimated empirical soil parameters, the 2020 Permafrost distribution on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was estimated based on the extended freezing number model. The results show that in 2020, the permafrost area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was 1.038 million square kilometers, accounting for about 39.55% of the total area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau; the seasonal permafrost area was about 1.466 million square kilometers, accounting for about 55.57% of the total area of the plateau. This distribution map and borehole data are the verification targets, with an overall accuracy of 0.84 and a kappa coefficient of 0.58. Compared with the frozen soil distribution maps of the same period, the accuracy is significantly better than other frozen soil distribution maps.
