Originally a continuous expanse of mobile sand dunes, the sand ridges exhibit a NNE-SSW orientation. Following intensive control measures implemented in the 1970s and over two decades of various anthropogenic influences, the edges of these sand ridges have become largely stabilized. The interdune lowlands now support numerous vegetation patches, while the crests of the ridges and the larger slip faces remain predominantly bare. The starting point of the survey transect is situated to the north-northwest of Linze Station, at coordinates 39°21'11.1" N, 100°07'43.8" E. The total dimensions of the transect are 600 m in length and 100 m in width.
