This dataset was analyzed to obtain the 30m and 1m ground cover base data (data format is .shp file) of the main floodplain storage areas in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River Basin, which were deciphered from the Institute of Space and Astronautical Information Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, from 1985 to 2020. For the 1985-2020 land use type changes in the Chu River and Chaohu Lake Basin barren grass two-three dikes, Artemisia dikes and eighteen joint dikes, the analysis was conducted, and the trend and degree of changes in their regional buildings, forest land, water bodies, water fields, cultivated land, and grasslands were clarified (the output format is .xlsx). Information on land use in typical periods was obtained, and the quantity and variability characteristics of land use changes in the flood storage and detention area were analyzed. It helps to identify the unfavorable impacts of excess floods in the savings basin of the flood storage and detention area, and provides scientific basis and technical support for better operation and management of the flood storage and detention area.
