China Valiguan Atmospheric Background Reference Observatory (WARO) was built in 1994, located on the Tibetan Plateau, 100°54'E, 36°17'N, 3810 meters above sea level, is the highest atmospheric background reference monitoring station in the world, and the first atmospheric background reference monitoring station in the hinterland of the continent in the world, which has filled the gap of the Global Atmospheric Monitoring Network (GAW) within the Eurasian continent. The establishment of this station fills a gap in the Global Atmospheric Monitoring Network (GAW) in Eurasia. The GAW is jointly invested by the Chinese government and the GEF, and is operated and managed by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA). It is a comprehensive atmospheric background reference monitoring mainly for greenhouse gases and atmospheric ozone monitoring.
