The overall objectives of the "Survey of Snow Cover Characteristics and Distribution in China" are to formulate field measurement standards for snow cover in China, carry out ground and remote sensing surveys of snow cover characteristics, obtain data sets of spatial distribution and changes of snow cover in China since 1980, compile new snow cover type maps and series of thematic atlas in China, and establish and share comprehensive data bases of snow cover characteristics to meet the needs of climate change research and water research Basic data needs for resource assessment and disaster prevention and mitigation. The project is in the stage of data collection, and the main work that has been completed includes: "China Snow Surface Observation Code" (has been officially published), snow depth/snow pressure data of 873 meteorological stations, snow surface survey of 40 ordinary stations, 6 super stations, 6 lines 672 profiles, 19 500m and 9 25km quadrates. Collation, quality control, metadata and data documentation of 11 Snow Course observations; Preparation of remote sensing products for snow cover area (1980-2019), snow water equivalent (1980-2019) and snow albedo (1980-2019) in China, and compilation of metadata and data documents; A series of thematic maps of water-heat effect of snow cover in typical farmland areas in Northeast China, a series of thematic maps of snowmelt flood disasters on the north and south slopes of the middle Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang, and a thematic map of snow water resources in typical river basins in Northwest China and its metadata and data documents were compiled. In addition, five long time series remote sensing products, including snow cover area (5km/500m), snow albedo (daily/eight-day synthesis) and snow water equivalent, were collected and released in advance.
