The "Polar Biological Resources, Environment and Ecology Development Strategy Forum" sponsored by the Polar Survey Office of the State Oceanic Administration of China and hosted by Shandong University was held in Jinan on May 12, 2013. The forum was chaired by Professor Zhang Yuzhong from the Marine Biotechnology Research Center of Shandong University, the State Key Laboratory of Microbiology Technology of Shandong University, and researcher Chen Bo from the China Polar Research Center. Director Wang Yong, Director Li Guo, Deputy Director Jiang Mei of the Polar Expedition Office of the State Oceanic Administration, as well as many experts from the First, Second and Third Institutes of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration, the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Ecological Environment Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the China Marine Environmental Monitoring Center, the China Polar Research Center, Wuhan University, Shandong University and other scientific research units attended this forum.

The theme of this forum is to strengthen the effective organization and coordination of scientific investigation projects in the fields of polar biological resources, environment and ecology in my country, promote exchanges and cooperation of projects, and improve the research level of projects. Vice Minister Liu Shengxian of the Academic Research Department of Shandong University delivered a welcome speech and introduced the development status of Shandong University and related marine scientific research. Director Wang Yong of the Polar Expedition Office of the State Oceanic Administration introduced the current situation of scientific expeditions in the Antarctic and Arctic in my country and the special situation of national polar scientific expeditions during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period. He hoped that with the support of the state, a polar scientific research platform will be built to promote various disciplines. Cross-research, strive to obtain higher-level research results and display the results. Director Li Guo said that cooperation among various polar expedition projects has reached a certain scale, and a polar scientific research platform with multi-disciplinary intersection and complementary characteristics has been initially successfully established, but it needs to be strengthened in terms of project cooperation design, coordination and international cooperation. Deputy Director Jiang Mei gave a detailed introduction to the policies, regulations, etc. involved in the North and South Pole expeditions. Experts participating in the meeting from various scientific research units also displayed their respective research results and discussed the setting and observation of the north and south polar sample plots, sample collection and preservation, technical procedures and standards for implementation, ecosystem monitoring and management, existing scientific research conditions and future development, continuity of research work, inspection schedule and logistics support, effective organization and coordination of scientific inspections, interdisciplinary intersection of scientific research projects, team building, academic exchanges and international, In-depth discussions were conducted on domestic cooperation and other aspects.

After the discussion, the participants agreed that the polar expedition project needs to be strengthened and improved in the following aspects: 1) the condensation and improvement of the scientific issues involved in the expedition project;2) the scientific arrangement of the expedition time and location so as to obtain scientific data with the concept of time and space to provide sufficient data support for the solution of scientific problems;3) the expedition and experimental equipment of the Arctic Yellow River Station so that more experimental data can be obtained on site; 4) More relevant researchers will participate to form a research team with a more reasonable age and subject structure.

Finally, Director Wang Yong of the Polar Expedition Office of the State Oceanic Administration made a summary, emphasizing that teamwork is more vital. It also hopes that through stable and long-term support from the country, we will build a platform for polar scientific expedition and research, promote the intersection and cooperation of various disciplines, strive to obtain more innovative research results, and enhance my country's academic influence in the field of international polar scientific research; At the same time, scientists are required to design and apply for polar scientific expedition projects based on national needs, and actively promote polar expedition projects to a higher and deeper level to improve the output rate of project scientific research results.
