This project is led by Wang Feiteng, a researcher of the Northwest Institute of Ecological Environment and Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The project is jointly undertaken by several units, including the Northwest Institute of Ecological Environment and Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Normal University, China Academy of Meteorological Sciences, Harbin Institute of Physical Education, Hebei Climate Center, Shandong Normal University, Yabuli Sports Training Base in Heilongjiang Province, Zhangjiakou Kabin Skiing Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Huike Education Technology Group Co., Ltd., Miyuan (Zhangjiakou) Tourism Resort Co., Ltd., forming an integrated innovation team combining industry, education and research. Snow sports are the highlight of the Winter Olympics, accounting for 70% of the total number of gold medals. The snow protection technology for sports events is an important foundation and prerequisite for ensuring the successful hosting of snow events at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Its key technologies are reflected in a series of snow management work such as snow making, snow storage, snow spreading, snow quality monitoring and forecasting, and related remedial measures. The project aims to establish a joint team consisting of research institutes, ice and snow universities, ski resorts, and enterprises to develop an integrated solution suitable for the development of China's ice and snow industry, focusing on snow making, snow storage, snow quality assurance, and track maintenance in ski resorts. On the one hand, it will provide technical support for the snow events of the Winter Olympics, and on the other hand, it aims to promote the comprehensive integration of China's snow work with the international community and serve the strategic goal of "expanding from the south to the west and eastward" of China's ice and snow industry in the post Olympic era. This project has released a total of 12 datasets, including experimental data from snow making systems, meteorological data from China's three major ski resorts, ski jumping snowdrift data, and meteorological observation data from the Zhangjiakou competition area. This project focuses on the ski resorts of the Beijing Winter Olympics and multiple other ski resorts. Through observation, experimentation, and numerical simulation, key technologies such as track snow quality assessment, monitoring, and forecasting, ice like snow track production, various methods of snow storage, as well as high-efficiency snow making models and complete snow making systems are developed.
