This data is a compilation of long-term material balance data for Urumqi Glacier No. 1 at the source of the Urumqi River in the Tianshan Mountains, which records the annual mass balance results of the glacier since 1958.The Urumqi Glacier No.1 in the basin was selected by the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) as one of the 10 key glaciers to be monitored internationally, representing not only the glaciers in China or even in Central Asia but also a few glaciers in the world with observation over 50 years. The purpose of this dataset is to (1) reflect the trends in the mass balance of Urumqi Glacier No. 1 and (2) to provide convenience to colleagues working on comparative validation and modelling of the glacier mass balance.

Regular flower pole height measurement
(1) Layout of the mass balance flower pole network array: (2) Regular measurement of flower pole heights and calculation of accumulation and ablation; (3) Main observation indicators: latitude, longitude and elevation (RTK)\pole length and height of each ablation flower pole on Urumqi Glacier No. 1; additional ice thickness, snow layer thickness, density profile characteristics, etc.
