Seedling regeneration is one of the key approaches to achieving ecological restoration and reconstruction, and it is also the foundation for maintaining forest dynamic stability and sustainable development. We collected a three-year monitoring dataset of 12,432 seedlings from the cold-temperate coniferous forests of the northern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to assess the density constraints of seedlings of different sizes and the effects of abiotic factors with significant spatial heterogeneity on seedling regeneration. This dataset includes the 2022–2023 Qinghai spruce seedling survival and environmental factor dataset from the Qilian Mountain Forest Ecological Station. The data include seedling survival/mortality status (status), elevation (ELEV), slope (Slope), terrain position index (TPI), seedling neighbor density (Scon), tree neighbor density (Tcon), soil quality index (SQI), mean leaf angle (MLA), canopy gap fraction (CGF), and seedling height (Height).

In 2021, we established 130 5×5 m seedling plots within the large-scale plot. In each seedling plot, woody plants with a diameter at breast height (DBH) < 1 cm were defined as seedlings and were marked and identified. The dataset includes data on a total of 12,432 seedlings collected from 2022 to 2023.
Elevation measurements were taken at the four corner points of a 5×5-meter grid within a 10.2-hectare plot using a total station, and the elevation (ELEV), slope (Slope), and terrain position index (TPI) were calculated for each seedling plot. Ten soil indicators were measured at the plot level (5×5 m), and the soil quality index (SQI) was used to characterize changes in soil resources. Sapling neighbor density (Scon) and tree neighbor density (Tcon) were calculated based on the basal area at breast height divided by the distance between the focal sapling and its neighbors of the same species. The average leaf inclination angle (MLA) and canopy gap fraction (CGF) were measured at the center of the 5m x 5m sapling plot, 1.5m above the ground, using the PLANT CANOPY IMAGER CI-110.
Good quality.
