The inaugural meeting of the Central Asian Alliance for International Cooperation in Scientific Data was held in Urumqi
On June 26, 2026, the inaugural meeting of the Central Asia Alliance for International Cooperation in Scientific Data was organized and held in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The alliance was jointly initiated by the Northwest Institute of Ecology, Environmental Resources, China Academy of Sciences and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, China Academy of Sciences. 16 scientific research institutions from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan participated. At the meeting, all parties formally signed the "Central Asia International Scientific Data Cooperation Alliance Initiative", marking that regional scientific data sharing and cooperation has entered a new stage of institutionalization.
The alliance is positioned as an open, voluntary, inclusive, mutually beneficial and non-profit international scientific data cooperation platform, aiming to establish a long-term credible and sustainable scientific data cooperation mechanism in Central Asia. By bringing together partners inside and outside the region, the alliance will focus on building a scientific data cooperation network, promoting the construction of a shared scientific research basic environment, comprehensively improving regional scientific data management and application capabilities, providing a solid data base for joint research and scientific evaluation, and strengthening scientific evidence-based decision-making services.
According to reports, the alliance's key contribution areas cover areas such as cryosphere change, climate adaptation, ecological environment, biodiversity, desertification control, water security, food security, disaster prevention and reduction, and regional sustainable development, aiming to coordinate responses to Central Asia. Common challenges faced by the region. The establishment and operation of the alliance relies on the organization and implementation of the "Strategic Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation" project of the national key R & D plan-"Construction and Cooperative Research of the International Cooperation Center for Scientific Data in Central Asia-South Asia Cold and Drought Regions".
The establishment of this alliance is not only an important milestone in the upgrading of scientific and technological cooperation between China and Central Asian countries from project-driven to platform-driven, but also a pragmatic implementation of the construction of the "Digital Silk Road" in the field of scientific research infrastructure. In the future, the alliance will actively attract more partners, continue to improve scientific data technology capabilities, and provide stable and efficient scientific and technological support for regional sustainable development.
