In this data set, five ice cores were drilled near Zhongshan station and Neila Bay during 2004-2005. The data of length, density, salinity and weight were measured. Ice cores are cores drilled from the interior of glaciers. Because of the low temperature, the snow does not melt. Every year, the snow forms a layer of sediment. Year after year, the ice layer gradually forms from the bottom to the top, and the older the ice age is, the more the ice core is formed. In winter, the temperature is low, and the snow is fine and dense; in summer, the temperature is high, and the snow is coarse and loose; therefore, there are significant differences in stratification structure between the ice layers formed by snow cover in winter and summer, just like the tree ring.

By drilling five ice cores between Zhongshan station and Neila Bay, the data sets of physical parameters and biological characteristics are illustrated.
Direct observation
This instrument is an optical observation project. The observation environment is sometimes interfered by the station lights, weather conditions and moonlight, and the data quality is high. The data record of the observation instrument is made in duplicate. According to the scientific cooperation agreement signed by polar research institutes of China and Japan, China and Japan keep one copy respectively.
