The data set contained the data of soil mass water content and soil bulk density of Picea crassifolia forest, sunny slope grassland,shrubland in different altitude gradients in Pailugou watershed of Qilian Mountains. Pailugou watershed is located in Mazhi Township, Sunan Yugur Autonomous County, Zhangye City, Gansu Province, with an elevation range of2700-3800m. The data set contains four Excel files, and the soil moisture content and soil bulk density of different vegetation types are saved separately.
The soil sampling points were determined by different site types along the elevation gradient in the experimental watershed. The soil profile was selected along the slope direction. According to different soil depths of 0 – 10 cm, 10 – 20 cm, 20 – 30 cm, 30 – 40 cm, 40 – 50 cm, 50 – 60 cm and 60 – 80 cm, the soil profile was sampled with a ring knife, and three replicates were taken for each level. The soil samples were taken back and weighed with a balance of 0.01 g, dried at 105 °C for 8-12 hours, and then the dry weight was weighed after the drying dish was restored to constant weight at room temperature to obtain soil moisture content.
From May to September, each sampling point was sampled every 10 days every month, and the average soil mass water content of the month was obtained after the average soil mass water content of the three times per month.
