The Great Wall Station was built on February 20, 1985, located in King George Island, South Shetland Islands; The geographical coordinates are: 62 degrees 12 minutes south latitude and 58 degrees 57 minutes west longitude. The Great Wall Station in Antarctica is the first scientific research station established by China in Antarctica. A perennial scientific research station established by China in Antarctica for scientific exploration of the Antarctic region. It is located on the Fildes Peninsula in the west of King George Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, and faces the Great Wall Bay, a small bay in Maxwell Bay in the east. The bay is wide and deep, easy to access, backed by the snow covered hillside all the year round, and has sufficient water resources.
