ith substantial hydrocarbon accumulations within the Jurassic strata
of its central region. Notably, the Jurassic Badaowan Formation reservoirs in the Mobei-Mosuowan uplifts exhibit promising prospects for
exploration in deep oil and gas fields. Tight oil and gas have emerged as
crucial alternative resources to increase reserves and production, and
numerous sizeable tight gas reservoirs are associated with coal-measure
strata (Bustin and Bustin, 2016; Zhang et al., 2024a). While current
research predominantly focuses on the hydrocarbon generation potential of coal measures as source rocks (Damoulianou et al., 2022; Zhang
et al., 2024a), the diagenetic impact of coal strata on adjacent tight
sandstone reservoirs remains inadequately understood. Notably,
although the Badaowan Formation reservoirs in both Mobei and
Mosuowan uplifts share comparable sedimentary microfacies characteristics, they exhibit marked differences in reservoir properties due to
varying degrees of modification by coal-measure source rocks. The
observed order-of-magnitude permeability variations at similar porosity
levels may hint at the significance of pore structure in influencing
permeability (Xia, 2018), highlighting the particularity of complex pore
structure and pronounced heterogeneity in coal-measure reservoirs.
Consequently, the correlation between oil distribution and production is
tenuous, posing great challenges to tight oil exploration and
development.
