Conventional meteorological observation data from Shangdianzi Meteorological Station.
Use a pulsed fluorescence SO2analyzer (model 43C-TL, Thermo Fisher Scientific, MA, USA) and a chemiluminescence NOxanalyzer (model 42C-TL, Thermo Fisher Scientific, MA, USA) to perform in-situ measurements of the SO2and NOxmixing ratios, respectively.
Overall, the annual average value of sulfur dioxide from 2004 to 2016 showed a significant downward trend, with an average annual value of -6.1% (R=-0.84, P<0.01),which is very close to the -6.3% annual sulfur dioxide emissions in Beijing; The annual average value of sulfur dioxide showed a greater downward trend from 2008 to 2016, with an average annual value of -7.4% (R=-0.95, P<0.01).The annual average value of nitrogen oxides showed a fluctuating upward trend from 2005 to 2010, with an increase of+3.4% (R=0.38, P=0.40), reaching its peak in 2010 (16.9 ppb), and then showing an extremely significant fluctuating downward trend from 2010 to 2016, with an annual average decrease of -4.5% (R=0.95, P<0.01). After 2010, there was a significant correlation between the annual average nitrogen oxide mixture ratio and the annual nitrogen oxide emissions in North China (R=0.94, P<0.01).From 2011 to 2016, the decline rate of the annual mean value of the mixed ratio of nitrogen oxides at the regional atmospheric background station in Shangdianzi (SDZ) (-4.8% yr-1, R=-0.92, P<0.01) was lower than the decline rate of the annual emissions of nitrogen oxides at the State Key Laboratory and Beijing (-8.8% yr-1, R=-0.94, P<0.01)(-9.0% yr-1, R=-0.96, P<0.01). This indicates that the surface nitrogen oxide mixture ratio of SDZ has a weaker emission reduction impact on Beijing and its surrounding areas compared to sulfur dioxide.
