This data is based on the data from 2207 meteorological observation stations in China provided by the National Climate Center from 1981 to 2010. The annual average aridity index (AI) data of each station is calculated by the ratio of the annual average precipitation P to the annual average potential evapotranspiration E0. Using altitude, temperature, precipitation, vegetation and other data as auxiliary variables, the data is interpolated into a 1 km grid data using the Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) method. Finally, the vector boundary clipping of the Qilian Mountains region is used to generate the annual average aridity index (AI) data of the Qilian Mountains region from 1981 to 2010.

The data comes from 2207 meteorological observation stations nationwide provided by the National Climate Center from 1981 to 2010, and has undergone strict quality control by the China Meteorological Administration.
(1) Calculate the annual precipitation at each station and use the FAO Penman Monteith method to obtain the annual potential evapotranspiration; (2) Calculate the annual average precipitation and potential evapotranspiration of each station from 1981 to 2010, and use the formula AI=P/E0 to calculate the annual average dryness index of each station (this algorithm is the UNEP algorithm, opposite to the domestic dryness calculation formula AI=E0/P); (3) Using altitude, temperature, precipitation, vegetation and other data as auxiliary variables, the geographically weighted regression (GWR) method is used to interpolate the data from each station into 1 km grid data; (4) Using the vector boundary of Qilian Mountains, perform cutting and other steps, and finally output and save in GeoTIFF format.
The source data is meteorological station data that has undergone strict quality control by the China Meteorological Administration, and the data has high credibility.
