The Arctic cryosphere, such as the Greenland ice sheet, permafrost, sea ice, and snow cover, plays an important role in the warming of the Arctic climate and the storage and release of anthropogenic pollutants. Black carbon (BC) aerosols are ubiquitous in the troposphere and are the main absorbers of visible light. They have been considered an important air pollutant and short-lived climate promoter in the past few decades. This dataset includes the concentration levels of BC in ice and snow in the Arctic region, as well as representative records of BC ice cores from different regions since the Industrial Revolution (1750s) to study the changes in BC concentration over time. This dataset compiles different methods for measuring BC in ice and snow based on its physical and optical properties. It provides a summary of the changes in BC in ice cores and the spatial distribution of BC in the Arctic region.

The data source is research papers on Arctic black carbon published in high-quality international journals such as Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, Science of The Total Environment, Environmental Research, Environmental Pollution, etc.
This dataset is based on the Web of Science dataset and uses the "topic" classification retrieval function to search for terms related to the Arctic, black carbon, and ice cores. Use relevant software to create charts of the spatial distribution and temporal changes of BC in the Arctic region.
This dataset is collected from Arctic black carbon articles published from 2010 to 2022, with comprehensive search, accurate search keywords, and wide coverage.
