The epicenter of the earthquake is only 40 kilometers away from Herat, the fourth largest city in Afghanistan, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers. According to the latest news from Afghanistan, as of the evening of the 8th local time, the earthquake has caused 2445 deaths and over 9200 injuries. The relevant departments of the Afghan Interim Government and the Herat Provincial Government have urgently dispatched rescue teams to provide material assistance to the affected residents.
